Its taken me the best part of 40 hours to really understand the metabolism system and how it works, managing my fat, protein and carbs levels so I doint put on tons of weight, whats good to collect for food stores, finding good locations to make my fortified house when they come. Single player is obviously easier to get gear but mistakes do happen, ive managed to drown myself trying to cross a river, and had a good pile of loot on me the other day and ran straight into a bear, didnt come off to well from that. multiplayer does add an element of fear, but it also exists in single player. Single player is identical to multiplayer with one benefit, no tards camping on roofs killing new players. There are even PVE servers where killing other players isn't allowed.

I would say if you're really interested in the game then give single player a try and then find a privately run server, since they often have active admins you can tell about hackers in the chat should they arrive. but they don't have missions or anything yet. It's a pretty big map, with several wild animals, zombies, and mechs to fight, all kinds of food to balance out into a healthy diet, and lots of guns and craftable tools, weapons, armor, etc. I've made friends and shot on sight, etc.

A good chunk of time in multiplayer is spent by yourself unless you're actually running in a group or actively heading to airfield because that's where everyone goes, but part of what's fun is never knowing when you'll run into people and having those interactions. I spent my first hour in single player and haven't gone back yet. I have over 80 hours, mostly on the public servers, and only died to a hacker once. They absolutely are prioritizing it, in the interview posted here today he points out that they have entire mechanics that function in the game but haven't gone into the release yet to better secure them, as well as adding a cheater report in the UI.
